The School For Conversion offers theological education and practical formation for the sake of conversion into a new way of life. Based in Christian communities of neo-monastic discipleship, SFC facilitates study directed toward the creation of new community and creative expressions of God’s kingdom in the abandoned spaces of society. One of the pitfalls of Western theology has been the assumption that we can talk about God from positions of privilege without listening to those who suffer in society. From “The Word on the Street” in urban America to the gospel of the barrios and favelas in Latin America, School for Conversion seeks to relocate theological education for the sake of the whole church. The dominant global culture of specialized education calls people to incur an incredible amount of debt and invest as much as twenty-five years of their lives in professional training. Hardly anyone, however, invests time and resources into learning how to live well. Even less in becoming holy. But we believe this is the goal of life: to be holy as God is holy. SFC is a response to our great need for a space where Christians can think about the way of life Jesus taught and practiced while experimenting in the new reality of God’s kingdom here on earth.
